I have been in education since 1991. In the Twin Cities I taught at two high schools. Prior to Northern Lights, I taught Statistics and Quantitative Methods for 5 years in Iowa, at Waldorf College. Until recently, I always coached - soccer, basketball, and softball - while teaching.
I grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota, the youngest of seven children. My father was a police officer and my mother was an office manager. After graduating from high school, I attended a junior college in Iowa, then Mankato State University, while finishing up with a Masters in Education from St. Scholastica. My husband, Alan, and I, have two sons, Colt and Remington, and two daughters, Beretta and Tikka. We are enjoying the north woods - but miss our fainting goats, horses, chickens, and miniature donkey.

I was born and raised in Hibbing. I went to ICC and UMD, where I got my degree in teaching English. I met my husband John at ICC. We were married in 2005 and live in Floodwood. I have a chow mix named Molly, a rat terrier named Andy, a cat named Buzzard and a cat named Peeky Cheeks (aka: Timmy). All four of them were rescued in one way or another. I would have many more animals if I could, but my house is too small and my husband would protest. Some of my favorite things to do are reading, drawing, writing, and walking in the woods with John and my dogs. I like working with adolescents because they are funny, energetic, and interesting people. Everyday at school I am challenged by their ideas and invigorated by their enthusiasm, and I thank them for it.

The arts have always been my spirit and soul. I not only found the technical fundamentals natural for me; I found that the arts enhanced my social awareness and community values so important for a safe and healthy community. I've been an Art Instructor at Itasca Community College, Director of the MacRostie Art Center, and recently interested with greenhouse management. Also, a great interest for me is our environment, especially water shed management.
I hope to be involved in projects with the arts, greenhouse management, community garden, lake and river watershed studies, and community enhancement and participation.
